Trademark

Unauthorized Use of CRBOH Credentials ROH® or ROHT®

Only those individuals who have passed the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH)  examination process, paid their membership dues annually and maintain their registration are entitled to use the trademarked Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH®)  or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT®) credentials.  These accreditations are trademarked by CRBOH and are to be used only when authorized by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists.

Individuals who have allowed their registration to expire due to nonpayment of annual dues, were unable to obtain the required maintenance points during the 5-year cycle, or those who have had their accreditation revoked by CRBOH are not entitled to use CRBOH credentials.  Persons who have not successfully passed the examination process are not authorized to use CRBOH accreditation.

Individuals who use the CRBOH trademarked accreditation without authorization, will be contacted by CRBOH.   A permanent record of unauthorized use is maintained  by the CRBOH Registrar and  Individual names will appear on the CRBOH public website for a period of three years.

Vision

  1. A society in which the incidence of death, disease and discomfort due to adverse workplace environmental factors are greatly decreased, along with the associated social and economic costs; and productivity, labour relations and general well-being have improved as a consequence.
  2. There is universal recognition that occupational hygiene is the discipline best qualified to identify, evaluate and control the adverse impact of hazardous environmental agents, in or arising from the workplace, on human health; and that CRBOH accreditation is the hallmark of an occupational hygiene professional.

Goals

  • To promote the discipline of occupational hygiene and the designations of Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH®) and Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT®) as the marks of professional competence in the practice of occupational hygiene.
  • To establish a system, including a Registration Board, to assess, identify, register and certify persons who are competent in connection with the design, management and implementation of occupational hygiene programs.
  • Involvement in academic, community and professional activities, and specifically any that are related to setting and publicizing of standards of practice in occupational hygiene.
  • Enhancing recognition of, and reliance on, the profession by the public, other professional groups, organized labour, the business community, governments, and the working population.

Mission

  • To advance the professional practice of occupational hygiene by defining minimum levels of professional and technical competence in the practice of occupational hygiene.
  • To register and accept as members those applicants demonstrating such competence.
  • To further the practice and foster the profession of occupational hygiene in Canada and internationally.

Objectives

  • To facilitate communication and cooperation (on matters that are encompassed within CRBOH’s mandate) with and between regional associations within Canada and internationally.
  • To develop collective promotional materials.
  • To forge alliances with Canadian and international professional accreditation organizations of congruous disciplines.
  • To develop and implement a strategy to increase public awareness of the “ROH®” and “ROHT®” designations.
  • To increase the profile of accredited hygiene practitioners in the view of business and labour groups.
  • To continue and enhance international participation via IOHA and AIHA/IAC.

Code of Ethics

Registered Occupational Hygienists® & Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologists® shall:
  1. Place the health and safety of workers above all other interests in the performance of their professional work.
  2. Direct professional activities toward the protection and improvement of the health, safety, and well-being of all persons.
  3. Make every reasonable effort to protect the environment from adverse effects resulting from the performance of their work.
  4. Perform their work honestly, objectively, and in accordance with currently accepted professional standards.
  5. Respect the privacy of confidential personal, professional, and business information.
  6. Participate only in projects or situations that do not place them in personal or business conflicts of interest. This provision is waived if the principal parties to the ROH®’s or ROHT®’s conflict of interest have given their informed, specifically expressed, consent.
  7. Conduct themselves with integrity.
  8. Maintain a working knowledge of current developments in the profession and a detailed knowledge of areas in which they claim expertise.
  9. Promote activities that advance and disseminate occupational hygiene knowledge.
  10. Co-operate with the directors of the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists in administering this Code of Ethics. Adopted June 19, 1992
